Beauty and the Beast

A Drawing from Beauty and the Beast - Number 4
Walter Crane - The Beast courting Belle

Belle arrives at the castle of the Beast to plead for her father's life and the Beast is smitten with her. The elegantly dressed boar is chatting with the Princess, who looks a lot like the big nosed princess that Crane drew for his Frog Prince series. I guess Crane either had a thing for women with really big noses or he had a limited repertoire of women's faces that he could draw.

In any event here Belle is listening to this fantastic Boar talk to her. I bet she is wondering if he would taste good barbecued. A boar hunt would be quite fun just about now.
